A private collection in the heart of Brussels
The VanhaerentsArtCollection is a unique and extensive collection of contemporary art, assembled by Walter Vanhaerents and his children, Els and Joost. It is characterized by their individual approach to collecting and their shared passion for new and provocative art.
The origins of the Vanhaerents Art Collection date back to the 1970s, when a young Walter Vanhaerents began collecting his first works of art. He assembled works that were considered highly provocative and radical at the time, thereby laying the foundation for a collection that is now among the most prestigious in the world.
The collection thoroughly reflects the diversity and vitality of contemporary art practice. Both established and emerging artists are represented in the collection, with works in various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation art, photography, and video.
The Vanhaerents Art Collection is housed in a three-story industrial building dating from 1926, located in the heart of Brussels. The former sanitary ware warehouse, with a total floor area of 3,800 m², was converted by the leading Belgian architectural firm Robbrecht & Daem into a spacious exhibition, storage, and office space.
