Art Nouveau corner house with an enchanting entryway
In the heart of Saint-Gilles lies Maison Hannon, a remarkable house designed by Jules Brunfaut in 1902. This architectural gem, built for lawyer and art lover Édouard Hannon, is a magnificent example of Brussels Art Nouveau. What immediately makes an impression upon entering is the grand hall, where an immense sgraffito invites visitors to take the staircase to the first floor. Equally remarkable is the conservatory, a light and open extension that brings nature indoors and creates a sense of tranquility and space.
A window into the Belle Époque
Maison Hannon is not just any house—it is a testament to an era. Brunfaut, a student of Victor Horta, gave his own interpretation of Art Nouveau here: elegant, well-thought-out, and full of refined details. The combination of organic forms, rich materials, and artistic finishes makes this house a unique experience. It tells the story of a period when art and architecture went hand in hand.
The tour of Maison Hannon reveals the stories behind Brunfaut’s craftsmanship and Hannon’s passion for art. Here you’ll see how every wall, every window, and every decorative detail was a deliberate choice, intended to inspire wonder. For those who love hidden details, architectural surprises, and the spirit of an era, this house is a revelation.
