EXPO: Christophe Gevers, the architecture of the detail

The monographic exhibition dedicated to Christophe Gevers (Antwerp 1928 – Ohain 2007) at the Design Museum Brussels is a walk through the archives, models and furniture of this Belgian interior architect and designer.

The exhibition reflects the spirit of Christophe Gevers, who said he became a designer “because I am interested in the present, the future and the distant past”. A designer who cannot be seen in separation from his surroundings. The expo includes the ”library of materials”, the workplace with its tools, machinery and equipment, as well as the graphic designs. Included is also the unique and impressive collection of models that Gevers made before starting on his technical drawings, a characteristic of his working process. To these are added furniture and accessories.

Gevers was an autodidact who designed classics such as the TBA chair for the Taverne des Beaux-Arts (1959). He is best known to the public for his interior designs of restaurants such as Au Vieux Saint Martin on the Sablon, the defunct La Marie Joseph on the Marché aux Poissons but equally and surprisingly he designed a number of fast food Quick restaurants in Belgium and abroad.

A Belgian designer to be more than proud of!
