Peter Lindbergh – Untold Stories

12.15.2022 – 05.14.2023

Vanderborght building – 1000 Brussels

This superb retrospective pays tribute to Peter Lindbergh: an expression of an artistic vision that has taken shape over four decades of work, encounters and creation.

He curated and designed the exhibition himself: over a period of three years, Lindbergh spent his nights researching, editing and collecting images in an effort to generate new interpretations and surprising twists and turns. These unreleased works, photographs, videos and large formats now adorn the rooms of the Vanderborght Building in Brussels.

Shortly before he died in 2019, Peter Lindbergh set up a foundation to preserve his work. Since then, the Peter Lindbergh Foundation keeps on disseminating and exhibiting his photographic heritage.

The exhibition Untold Stories – originally set up in collaboration with the Kunstpalast in Dusseldorf – is now being held in Brussels.

It showcases 150 works that their maker freely associated with each other in order to create a visual unity and establish a dialogue. Who discovers, who takes the pose and who just happens to walk by… all dimensions overlap.

Lindbergh worked with major glossy magazines: Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair. He was able to capture the fragile power of the models in a human way: in front of his camera, great names such as Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Helena Christensen showed another facet of their femininity, namely their raw beauty.

During the tour, the Korei Guided Tours guides will show you well-known and lesser-known work by this photographer. You’ll discover photography that lives through the energy of the portrait and also how Peter Lindbergh succeeds into elevating fashion photography to art.

The exhibition is an organisation of Profirst and is made possible by the Peter Lindbergh Foundation and the support of the City of Brussels.
